The Window Situation!

Yesterday was pretty horrible ... again!! Crazy
To give you a background as to what happened - I'll tell you what's been going on with my windows lately!

We were supposed to get our windows, including the balcony window and door, changed now, as they've been here since the house was built, some 50 years ago. Which sounds good ...
The most important thing is that I do NOT want people in my appartment with Zorro when I'm not around!! Yes, I can have friends over, watching Zorro when I'm gone (though that doesn't happen often, since all of my friends live so far away), but I will NEVER have hired people in here unless I can be there.
First of all I had to change the times, moving everything forward a week because there was no way I would be able to stay at home on the specific date they were coming!! I managed to change it, only to find the "window-guys" (the firm is called Rutek, which is how I will name them from now on) wanting to move it forward due to their schedule. That was okay, so at least we had set a date.

The were coming last Wednesday, on November 25th, it said they would arrive at 7.30 a.m. and that it would take two, maybe three days. At about 8 a.m. on Wednesday, one of the guys came, only to tell me they would come later that afternoon to do one window! My Dad was coming that night, so I asked them to get the bedroom fixed entirely, so I could start moving my furniture back ... but then I found out that they had to replace the window first and apply some "foam" (whatever it was) that would fill in around the edges. That would have to expand and dry before they could finish it. I manage to make him tell me they would replace the window before lunch and finish the window during the afternoon.
Said and done, they replaced the window and fixed the last of it during the afternoon and was out of my apartment by about 3 p.m. telling me they would be back on Thursday to fix two windows in the living room (one small, one large), the balcony door and window and the kitchen window.

They are supposed to start working at 7 or 7.30 a.m. but didn't arrive until about 10.30 on Thursday!! My Dad and I - and Zorro - locked ourselves in the bedroom, but couldn't stand it after a while. We put Zorro in his transportation box and went out ... shopping, filling gas and a bit more. I felt a bad for Zorro having to stay in the car the entire time, but like I said, I don't want him alone in the apartment with others, and I think he would have felt even worse, had I left him.
We got back a little while after lunch, and by then they had replaced the two (which is almost like one) windows in the living room, but that was it, and they hadn't even finished them off!!
They said they would quite for the day at about 2.45 p.m. ... some working hours, right?!? *sigh*

That night, when my Dad and I took some time to relax and talk, we disocvered they had used my electrical sockets for their machine and ripped them right off the wall!!!! Thank God my Dad was here, because he was able to fix it without getting an electrician here, but I still think it's really lazy and ignorant for something like that to even happen!!

They arrived early on Friday morning, but took a break after an hour. My Dad and I needed to run some errands, and since it had been okay to take Zorro the day before, we felt it'd be okay to do it again. One problem ... they guys didn't return!! We waited and waited, and they showed up after about an hour! We went out for a while, and when we got back we put Zorro in the bedroom on his own, but we started clearing up, and I think that made the guys work a bit faster, because we were always around!!
They fixed all the windows, completely and they also put shutters on all but 3 windows. They were going to come back to fix the rest of the shutters, and also fix part of the wall over my balcony door that had been destroyed in the process of changing the windows, they said they'd be back on Monday afternoon. They were, but apparently they could only fix the shutters because they didn't have the stuff with them to fix the wall. By then I was quite annoyed, it was said this would take 2, maybe 3 days, this was the fourth day I had them in my appartment!!!

I was told by everyone that I had to stick up for myself and not just give in to them, so I told them I'd be home on Thursday morning, but that I had to leave by 12 ... one of them came on Thursday morning, he did "something" to the wall and said he'd be back in 45 minutes to fix the rest. That sounded good, but when he came back he just ... well, almost stated, not really asked: Are you home for the rest of the day ... I know it sounds like a question, but it was definitely more of a statement! I said I had to leave by 12, and he said they had to paint as well. I said I'd be home by 4 p.m., but it didn't even look like he'd heard me. He wanted to know if they could come in and paint anyway, but I really don't like that so I said no. He became quite rude and unfriendly and promptly told me that in that case I'd have to wait, they could perhaps get in at some point after December 18, though he didn't know, and that was my choice, and he left wihtout saying goodbye or giving me a chance to say anything!!

It really upset me and I hit almost an all-time-low yesterday!! WHY is it so impossible to get things to work?!?!!? On top of that, there HAS to be something wrong with the ventilation in the bedroom, because there is a horrible horrible wailing sound coming through the ventilation in the window, constantly!! It's shut, but the sound is terrible, and it kept me awake all night! I tried to talk to them about this earlier, but was told they could do nothing ... I'm gonna have to prop something in there tonight, or I'll never get any sleep ...

I've had two really bad days, and I'm feeling really fed up with the fact that everything is going WRONG, WRONG and more WRONG ... I hope I can make a comeback at some point, though it feels like this shit never ends ...

Opening My Heart!

As you may have noticed, this blog has been completely neglected lately! Things have not worked out at all, no matter what I have been doing or trying, and I haven't felt like exposing all the bad things that has happened, day after day after day! Doesn't make for fun reading, does it?!

However, I rather like this blog, and I'd hate to see it die, since I've put a lot of work into it, it's been doing fairly well, and it's been around for over three years. So I'm taking a deep breath now and will try to summarize this fall, in the hopes that the future will be a bit better. But it's not easy to know where to start ...

Well, first and foremost, my laptop is FINALLY back with me!! Yes!!! Teethy
It was quite weird as I didn't hear anything from the Repair Centre, where I eventually had to send it, and all of a sudden I got a note in the mail to go pick it up! Apparently they had replaced the Hard Disk Drive and reinstalled Windows Vista, and so far it seems to be working!! The not-so-good thing is that I didn't get Microsoft Office which I had on it before - so I still can't use the computer for actual writing ... which is a bit annoying. I might be able to get that fixed during Christmas holidays though! *fingers crossed*

I have also had the windows in my appartment replaced. The windows were going on 50 years and needed to be replaced - unfortunately, that hasn't gone smoothly. I have had the guys in here for four days now (and I have to stay at home while they are here, as I have to watch Zorro), and they never ever seem to finish. It's just one thing after another (and they usually start working at 11-11.30 and stop at 2 ... some working hours, right?!? Disappointed 3 Now they have managed to at least get the windows changed (so I have all my furniture and curtains back in place), but they destroyed bits of my wall when they removed the balcony door, and they have to fix that later this week - and they have already been in one extra day to finish putting in the window shutters. And then I realized they haven't finished the outside of the balcony, but since I have a net there, to protect Zorro, they have to have access to my appartment to fix that as well. I'm getting seriously tired of them right now, I hope I can talk to them when they come for the wall ... Having to be home on certain hours is seriuosly ruining my personal routine now, espeically when it just seems to go on and on and on and on ... *sigh* I still don't know when they will be finished, but I just really hope it will be done soon!!

My Dad came for a visit about a week ago, and that was really fantastic!! It was the first time he has visited me on his own since my oldest sister was born in 2004, and it was really wonderful!! Unfortunately he arrived in the middle of the window-mess, it felt very nice to have someone here during all of it, but I also would have liked for my Dad and I to be able to spend a bit more quality time to ourselves ... instead of just trying to get everything to work out with the window-guys. But I still enjoyed his visit SO much, and I was feeling really, really low when he left - even though I know I'll be able to see him for Christmas.

There has been some problems with Dad and his family lately - quite a lot of problems actually. I definitely won't say any more than that, as it is their private business, but things haven't been well at all, and it turned out they managed to be able to book another trip to the United States!!! They went to Florida last December, and they are apparently going to do a da capo and go again in about a week. I very much hope that it will be a great trip for them, so they can get some compensation for everything that has happened, and that they will feel better when they come back!!

Needless to say, with all of this - as well as some other stuff that I won't bore you with now - my studies has been suffering A LOT!! I haven't managed to focus and concentrate properly and I'm seriously very worried about that now. I usually take my studies very seriously, and sometimes I sound more worried than I actually am, because it turns out I am prepared and I do pretty well - but this time I'm seriously seriously worried!!! I have to finish one 1st level thesis by the beginning of January, and while I know what it's about and has the basic structure figured out, the material won't gather itself and the thesis will most certainly not write itself!!! And that takes focus and concentration and hard work and time!!
I also have to write my Master's thesis now!! Things are still pretty undetermined regarding the practical matters, I will present it in the post-graduate seminar (*scary!!*), but it's not yet decided when ... it will probably be in April. But before that I have one full-time course (January-March), I will be mentor in the Hebrew course, meaning I have some work to do there, and I'll probably want to attend a lot of lectures. I also have a reading course in the New Testament with Greek, so I'm hoping to show up a bit for the Greek course as well, to freshen up my grammar skills a bit! So writing a Master's thesis on top of that will NOT be easy, that's for sure!!
The main problem now is that I'm clueless regarding the entire thing. I know I want to focus on the Covenant, and Exodus 34 - and since I enjoy working with texts, it would be fun working with a redactional-critical method ... but more than that: I'm clueless!! For some reason I can't conenctrate or think or reach any kind of decision regarding it, and I definitely need to get started on it ... SOON!!

Unfortunately, I also seem to have lost touch with a lot of my friends!! I know they are really busy and have a lot on their plates, and when I have felt so under the weather, I haven't had the energy to reach out to them ... but it feels a bit sad that I've lost that. I have some friends at the Department, and it's nice to hang out with them, taking a break and grabbing a coffee - but I also miss the friends that have left the Department and moved on to other things ...

Oh my, I guess you have all fallen alseep by now, this turned out to be a long entry. Still, if I'm going to start blogging again, I figured I'd better get everything up to speed again! I have been doing a little bit of photographing lately, so now it's only a matter of getting my laptop organized again, and move the pictures from the camera to the computer, and then I'll make some photo entries here! :-) (I have gotten quite a lot done on my laptop, so hopefully I might even be able to add at least some photos later on today)

Confusion!

I don't know what's been going on today, I've felt SO tired and been completely confused ALL day! Certainly not that great considering I should be productive like 27 hours a day right now! *gulp*

I really feel constantly very tired, I guess I should start looking around for tons and tons of vitamins and hope they will do the trick!
I went to Uni this morning, and tried to do some preparatory reading for my master's thesis, and I ended up reading and reading and not understanding a word of it! Not good!
I'm really disturbed by this, because I don't have the time to be so tired and so disorganized and so unfocused ... guess all I can do is hope for a better day tomorrow!

Oh yeah - anybody know any great medicine to prevent dreaming?! I know it sounds weird, but I'm dreaming so much and so intense right now, it's seriously affecting my sleep!! It's not nightmares per se - at least not all of them - but they are so intense, I wake up even more tired than when I went to sleep. Which isn't that great!

Oh well, I guess I should try to get something done for a few hours now, then get an early night and hope for some undisturbed sleep ...
Take care!

Tough Week

Last week was pretty intense, for a lot of reasons. Because of that, I was completely exhausted yesterday and pretty much wandered around the apartment like a zombie!! I'm still really tired today, but I need to get things done today, so I'm hoping I can pull myself together!

I think I might have made some progress on the laptop-issue! I have gotten it confirmed that the restoration cds have been sent to me, which at least is something, I suppose. Unfortunately they are being sent from France (!), but the guy I talked to at the Support Department told me they should be arriving around the middle of next week. I know there are no guarantees the cds will work, but at least there's some hope now, right?! *fingers crossed* I know I'm gonna be soooo happy if I can get the thing to work again, I REALLY miss it!!

On Friday I had a meeting with my professor regarding mostly my master's thesis ... the meeting went okay, some things good, others not-so-good. Luckily I really like the professor, he's great to deal with and that does help. Still, the whole master thesis-thing is a mess, since I'm the only one writing it in my subject, and I'm attending the post-graduate seminars, where I will ultimately present it as well ... I can't really go into detail regarding what came out of it, because it's a great big mess - but I will have TONS to do in order to make everything work. I'm pretty much hoping to complete my Master's Education the beginning of May, but it won't be easy until I get there, that's for sure!!

I have been doing a bit of walking and photographing lately, but since the computer situation isn't solved yet, I'm afraid I won't be able to share them with you. Guess I'll make a number of photo-entries here when (if?! *gulp) I get the laptop fixed and I can work with photos the way I want to. I guess it would be possible to fix it on this computer as well, but since it's SOOO slow and freezes up every 10 minutes or so, I don't want do too much on this computer and risk it breaking down as well ... that would be soo-not-good!!

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend, I will at least try to get something done now! :-)

FINALLY ... I Hope!

Hey everybody!!

Things have not been going so great here lately, and I haven't felt like blogging at all. I'm still not feeling great, although so far this week seems to have been a bit better than previous weeks.

I don't have the time or the energy to go into detail on everything that's happened, but there are a lot of things going on now, I have a lot of things on my mind, which makes it hard for me to concentrate on what I should concentrate on: my studies!

My laptop is still not fixed!!! *hate that* Everything that could possibly go wrong has gone wrong, and that's something I keep thinking of a lot. Especially since I'm writing my first level thesis now and have to start my master's thesis SOON, and ... well, a computer does come in handy, right?! This old one does work, but it's superslow, some things aren't working on it and it's just generally very annoying. I had an email from the Computer Support tonight, so I'm gonna have to call them tomorrow, and see what happens next.

There are also a lot of other things on my mind, and constant thinking on those things - as well as lack of sleep - has caused to fall behind quite a bit on my studies ... which in turn casuses me to stress even more! A really vicious circle ...

Still, my mood has generally been better these last few days than earlier, and I'm hoping that can help me to try and turn things around a bit now. I won't make any promises regarding this blog, as there are no guarantees - but at least I HOPE I'll be able to update it a bit more often!

Oh, and I hope you had a great Halloween! :-D
